Answer: Review the information on the Mortgages page of this website. If you qualify for a Stewards Canada mortgage, complete the Mortgage Application and Statement of Faith Form on the Resources page and send it to us for assessment.

Question: What is the mortgage interest rate and how is it set?
Answer: The current mortgage interest rate is 6.75%. This rate is determined periodically by the Board of Directors of Stewards Canada after reviewing all applicable financial market metrics.

Question: Does Stewards Canada only fund building of assemblies?
Answer: No. We also support facilities that are housing ministries such as summer camps, homeless shelters, homes for the aged and nursing facilities, and Christian schools. We will use our funds to support any worthwhile way to further the Lord’s work, provided it is associated with the building, renovating, repairing or buying property.

Question: How many assemblies and other Christian ministries have you aided during the life of Stewards Canada?
Answer: During our existence, we have been able to provide financial help to over 300 assemblies and church-related ministries. Without our help, many of these churches would be unable to find the finances they needed to accommodate their growing ministry and repair existing facilities.

Question: How can I invest in Stewards Canada bonds?

Question: What is the interest rate that you will pay me if I invest in Stewards Canada Demand Variable Rate Bonds?
Answer: The current rate is 3.5% per annum. This rate is periodically reviewed by the Stewards Canada Board of Directors to ensure that it is competitive with financial market conditions. You have a choice of receiving an interest cheque semi-annually (July and December) or of leaving the interest invested in a compound bond. You are asked to choose between these two interest payment methods on the Subscription Agreement.

Question: What if I need money from my bonds? Must I wait to receive it?
Answer: If you contact us by phone, mail or email, we will immediately send you whatever monies you require. Generally, you will have your funds within one week of requesting them.

Question: How secure will my investment be?
Answer: Your investment is backed by first mortgages on church properties across Canada. Mortgages are issued only when all the Stewards Canada stringent investment criteria are met. In its history, Stewards Canada has never lost money on any of its investments.

Question: Have you ever missed an interest payment?
Answer: Stewards Canada has been serving the assemblies in Canada for over sixty years, offering private demand bonds to the congregations of Christians in the Brethren local churches across Canada. During that period we have been faithful in paying every bi-annual interest payments immediately following the period end.

Question: What is the difference between the mortgages funded by bonds, RRSPs and RRIFs?
Answer: There is no difference. All mortgages are funded only after meeting the Stewards Canada stringent criteria, irrespective of the source of the funding for the amount loaned the local churches.

Question: What happens to any profits Stewards Canada makes?
Answer: Since Stewards Canada is a charity, we are determined to ensure that profits are rebated to those who are utilizing its ministry – the local churches. After paying our administration expenses, any profits are rebated back to our mortgage holders on a pro-rata basis. The extent of the rebate is determined annually by the Board of Directors.

Question: How many persons have purchased Stewards Canada bonds?
Answer: Presently we have over 600 bondholders from all across Canada.

Question: How is Stewards Canada operated?
Answer: Stewards Canada is managed by an Executive Director and an Administrator and is actively guided by a Board of Directors composed of Christian bankers, accountants and lawyers. (See The Stewards).

Question: Is Stewards Canada associated with, or controlled by, any other charities?
Answer: No. Stewards Canada and its Board of Directors are completely autonomous from every other charity. In particular, Stewards Canada has no affiliation with Stewards Foundation in the United States and is not associated with Stewards’ Trust and Stewards’ Foundation in New Zealand and Australia.

Question: Is Stewards Canada a registered charity?
Answer: Yes. Stewards Canada is a charitable organization, appropriately registered with the Canada Revenue Agency, which periodically audits our activities.

Question: Are Stewards Canada bonds issued in accordance with a federal or provincial Securities Act?
Answer: Our ministry of financial service can be offered strictly to the Christian believers in Canada. We are not licensed to promote our investments to the general public. Our bonds are not to be construed as a public offering and are issued under exemptions from the dealer registration and prospectus requirements of the Securities Acts in the provinces where they are sold. Our exemption is available to us as an issuer that is organized exclusively for educational, benevolent, fraternal, charitable, religious or recretional purposes and not for profit. As a result, a bond purchaser is restricted from using most of the civil remedies available under securities laws. In addition, Stewards Canada bonds are subject to resale restrictions under applicable securities laws in addition to the contractual restriction contained therein.

Question: How do I know if a Stewards Canada investment is right for me and my personal financial circumstances?
Answer: We heartily recommend that all Stewards Canada investors consult with their own legal and financial advisors to ensure that it is suitable for the particular purchaser.

Question: Is Stewards Canada audited by independent chartered accountants?
Answer: Yes. Our financial statements, including all bondholder accounts, are audited annually by an independent Christian Chartered Accountant. If you wish to review our audited financial statements, they are available upon request.

Question: What kind of losses have you had in your history?
Answer: The Canadian Christian evangelical community has a very good reputation for repaying loans. We have never had a loss in our history since 1952. Our experience is that most Stewards Canada mortgages are repaid before their termination date.
